Trafficking in Irony

I booted my work PC this morning, which runs Windows XP. During the normal startup ministrations, I was presented with a new balloon dialog informing me that there were unused icons on my desktop. This is something of nontrivial concern for me, as I loathe desktop icons, and so keep only those very few for which I have use. I chose to let Windows remove the unused icon to the “Unused Icons” folder…

…which Windows placed anew on my desktop.

With the expection of the cute little paperclip at the bottom left hand corner of our Word docs, it’s a wonder that some many people and companies have embraced such a potent usage of useless short cuts. Now that is a great tool!

LOL. This reminds me of the time my computer asked me if I wanted to connect to the internet to search for a driver. I said yes.

(I was, in fact, searching for a driver for my network card, which would enable it to connect to the internet ;-))

Curious things, these boxes of electricity. They’re more interesting than the Coke-and-a-smile global village or spiritual parasites they’re so popularly characterized as. They’re both, often simultaneously.
