Moving on
The new paint’s drying still, but it’s part of something I hope to expand upon. I finally set it up in a fashion that is more easily extended, and did so from scratch.

Nice work, I love the layout!
Thank you, sir. I’d actually thought about asking you for some C&C, but I know you’re busy. Still, anything that stands out as a “Hey, I know what you’re trying to do here; this might help a little more” would certainly help me refine it. Eventually, though, while I pondered various and sundry things, I had to (a) lay down the basics and (b) remember what I wanted to do: highlight my writing.
You’ll notice that I liked the way you laid out previous posts in a grid. It’s becoming more common now, but your still works best overall, I think. I likes me some andyrutledge.com, too.
Totally with you. Design View is gorgeous and I’d definitely like to borrow that organization/hierarchy in a redesign.
I’m not entirely sure about this, but it’s possible that the content begins too high on the page. The uppermost 100px is almost exclusively reserved for branding and navigation so that my eyes almost skipped over the first article. I don’t think the branding _needs_ to be up there (in fact, that’s one of the things I liked most), but jsut a bit of padding could help bring it in line with where my brain expects things to start.
Ah, I can see that. I’d had it in my head for so long, I knew it was there, so of course I wouldn’t have missed it. Much obliged.
There’s more to come, as is always the case. It’s just good to have something firm to build on.
Thanks again for the commentary.
